2019 Scientific Conference

July 27 - 31 2019

The 2019 Scientific Conference will be held as a joint venture with the National Medical Association (NMA) Annual Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii! Follow the links below to the NMA Website for Conference Registration and Details.

Convene with us as the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Section joins the National Medical Association for its 119th Medical Conference.

The National Medical Association (NMA)'s Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly is acclaimed as the nation's foremost forum on medical science and African American health. Each year, African American physicians and other health professionals from across the country convene to participate in the scholarly exchange of medical advances, discuss health policy priorities, and to share experience through networking opportunities. Through NMA's 26 Scientific Specialty Sections and Interest Groups, the Convention attracts the broadest spectrum of African American physicians, academicians and scientists in the country.

Black Podiatrists nationwide are jubilant and grateful! A resolution passed on August 3, 2016 in the 114th House of Delegates of the National Medical Association with constitutional changes to the Bylaws of this austere organization ratifying Section status for Podiatric Medicine and Surgery with a seat in the House of Delegates. Black DPM's (Doctors of Podiatric Medicine) are now full members in the greatest medical organization on the planet that fights to eliminate healthcare disparities. Now, our nation's foot health has a place in the organization that challenged our US government to create Medicare.

The National Podiatric Medical Association was formed in 1973 to serve humanity by increasing the number of Black Podiatrists in the United States, to promote professional growth and opportunity, while retaining the numbers we have. There are approximately 600 Black Podiatrists nationwide, including the US territories. The NPMA sought to increase the visibility of minorities in Colleges of Podiatric Medicine, to secure funding to defray the increasing cost of a Podiatric Medical education, to insure placement of minority practitioners in residencies, teaching and clinical posts, to affect positive relationships within the profession and other medical groups, and to educate the community about Podiatric Medical care. These goals parallel those of the National Medical Association so this is an excellent Union!

The Section Chair of the newly formed Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Section of the National Medical Association.

Dr. Rene Settle-Robinson, and Dr. Kevin Jefferson is the Section Co-Chair of the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Section. They, along with the Current Board Members are excited to plan this year's program!

The current (119th) President of the National Medical Association is Niva Lubin-Johnson, MD.

The 119th National Medical Association Convention will be held in Honolulu Hawaii, from August 27th through August 31, 2019. You can pay dues and register for this convention through the Internet at www.nmanet.org
